Organizing Caregiver Support Groups

Facilitator Guide

The purpose of this booklet is to help plan and develop FASD support groups and to enhance support group activities. The booklet summarizes evidence-informed considerations to promote inclusive and safe group environments.

We know that support groups can be the foundation for life-changing shifts in perspective and that families do better when:

  • They feel less isolated.

  • They understand that they are not alone.

  • They know that their children are understood and supported.

  • They can build their own formal and informal support networks.

Angela Geddes prepared this document with a group of FASD expert advisors while working at Health Nexus. She feels confident that this booklet will make the process easier for support group facilitators, and that individuals and families will do better as a result.
