EPISODE #66: Empowering our Future Parents and Helpers

This episode reminds us all of where the most meaningful learning takes place and there are times when we need to challenge historical understandings, and approaches particularly when it comes to relationships and parenting strategies.  Research is evolving, and this means that there are things for us to learn and bring home.

My focus continues to be around the misinformation about prenatal alcohol/substance exposure because there is an URGENT need for us to do things differently. Even when I get referrals to support mood and relationship issues, we so very often (not always) learn that PAE has been a part of the history... Last week during one session we learned that 11 family members were exposed and struggling with mental health issues. That was a surprise... and our approach needs to be different.

Typical mental health services would not know how to offer a different and more helpful approach. When we know better, we can do better.
